It wasn’t just regular Bingo! Two hundred women and a few brave men packed into the Corsicana Country Club for the United Way’s sold-out event: Designer Bag Bingo. The fundraiser was held Thursday night.
“A non-profit in Lufkin did a similar event and I thought it would be successful here,” said United Way Executive Director Cara Wilson.
“I’ve lived in Navarro County all of my life. I’m excited to do something that benefits people in need in Navarro County. And it’s nice to think I could win a purse,” said local resident Jennifer Rash.
Corsicana Councilmember Susan Hale said, “It’s fun and it will help bring awareness and support for a great agency.”
Ticket sales alone helped the United Way raise about $14,000. Tickets ranged in price, but an individual could buy their game card for as little as $40. The entry price provided attendees with a nice meal, drinks and ten games of Bingo. However, those who wanted to up their chances were allowed to purchase additional Bingo cards.
Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade and Tory Burch were some of the designer brand purses that were the prizes for the Bingo winners. However it was the coveted Louis Vuitton bag that was the big prize of the night. With a black-out game and a playoff of sorts, Brandy Agnew walked away the winner of the $1,500 purse.
“It feels good. I really never win anything,” she said.
United Way board President Les Leskoven didn’t mind being on hand at the mostly all-female event, “It’s fun. We think it will bring awareness and support to the agency.”
Wilson said, “The event brought out a lot of folks who might not be aware of what the United Way does. So it’s a good opportunity to create awareness of what we do.”
