A very different kind of capsule! Second man on the moon Buzz Aldrin, 87, debuts a funky Mars-themed FASHION collection

After making his New York Fashion Week catwalk debut earlier this year, astronaut Buzz Aldrin has completed a true foray into fashion with his own line of space-themed clothing and accessories.

The 87-year-old is one of the world's best known adventurers, having famously become the second man to walk on the Moon during the historic 1969 spaceflight Apollo 11.

Now he is teaming up with bags and accessories brand Sprayground for a very different sort of 'capsule' - a fashion collaboration.

The brand has just unveiled the astronaut's first - and apparently only - line of apparel, all of which is appropriately space-themed and entitled 'Mission to Mars'.

Among the products in the line are gloves, backpacks, a ball cap and a futuristic-looking parka.

The products range from $20 for the gloves to $325 for the parka, with a shark-tooth pattern, and orange and grey palettes tying the line together.

The items are decked in astronaut-themed badges, including ones reading 'Moon, Mars and beyond,' 'Mars commander' and a famous quote from the 1990 sci-fi film Total Recall reading 'Get your a*** to Mars.'

The phrase has become a tagline of sorts for Buzz as he encourages NASA and the next generation of possible space explorers to make it to the red planet.

The promotional images for the capsule collection feature Buzz himself along with a number of models, zipping around the surface of Mars in sci-fi-style armor and toting the brand's bags.

One image sees Buzz standing with a bag in one hand and, in the other, an inverted American flag with the stars in the middle and lines of teeth in place of the stripes.

While it is his first collection, the line is the only time Buzz has dabbled in the world of fashion, having appeared on the New York Men's Fashion Week catwalk for a Mars-themed show back in January.

'I’ve walked on the Moon, so how hard can it be to walk in a fashion show,' Buzz told WWD back when his appearance in the fashion show was announced. 'Nick’s collection is very Mars-friendly and every astronaut should look their best when they land there.'

Buzz has showed no signs of slowing down well into his 80s, and even became the oldest person to reach the South Pole last year, despite having to cut the trip short when he fell ill during the visit with congestion in his lungs.
